Proof of life

To receive the payment of the pension abroad, you must have the "Proof of life" certificate. It allows the authorities to check whether the applicant is deceased or not. It must be filled out every year by the pensioner. The certificate must be legalized by the embassy.

Procedure of Legalization of the Proof of Life Certificate

A. In person

If you live in Greater Jakarta Area (Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi): Please report in person to the embassy with your filled out certificate and your passport and/or identity card.

B. Per e-mail

Send an e-mail to the embassy (jakarta@diplobel.fed.be) with the following attachments:

  1. Photo of yourself with the newspaper of the day (physical or digital newspaper); the date of the newspaper must be clearly visible. This replaces your personal visit to the embassy.
  2. Scanned version of the filled-out certificate.

The embassy will return a scan of your legalized certificate by email; you must return it to the respective pension services within around 30 days. The embassy is not allowed to forward this certificate directly to the pension services as it must be done personally.

Please note that the embassy can confirm the full content of the certificate only for Belgians who are registered in the consular register of the embassy.

For the non-registered Belgians and the non-Belgians (eg. spouses of late Belgians), the embassy can only confirm that the applicant is alive.
